MEASURE. ADJUST. RECORD.

What matching measures.

Two frames of the same model can have different specifications. Comparing them gives me a useful starting point.

01

Static weight

The total weight of the equipment, in grams, with the agreed strings, grip and accessories.

02

Balance

Where that weight balances along the frame. Two equal-weight rackets can distribute their mass differently.

03

Swingweight

Resistance to swinging around a defined axis. The quote confirms which measurements are included; paddle measurements require a suitable adapter.

Matching your backup.

Useful if you switch regularly or notice a distracting difference between frames. Bring the racket you like as your reference, plus the rackets you want matched. They may arrive strung or unstrung; I record the incoming setup and prepare every frame for the same measurement condition. $50.00 covers measuring two items, adjusting one to the agreed reference and recording final specs. Each additional item matched in the same job is $30.00.

Customizing your setup.

Tell me what you want to change about the feel, stability or balance. $30.00 per item covers the agreed adjustment, before / after measurements and a record of the result. Standard removable weighting is included. Special materials and more involved changes are quoted before work.

YOUR REFERENCE. A MEASURED MATCH.

How racket matching works.

  1. Record the setup you like.

Identify your reference racket and tell me about every existing modification: added tape or weight, silicone, putty, changed grips, sleeves, and where each sits. I inspect and record its incoming weight, balance and swingweight before removing anything. Unknown or hidden modifications are recorded too.

  2. Prepare a consistent baseline.

With your approval, remove strings, base grips, overgrips, dampeners and other removable accessories from every tennis racket. Keep the grommets, bumper, butt cap and handle structure in place, along with the deliberately added weight you have asked me to preserve. Strings cannot be reused once cut; replacement grips and restringing are agreed and priced separately.

  3. Measure and agree on an achievable target.

Measure static weight, balance and swingweight in that same baseline condition. Adding weight cannot lower a frame’s weight or swingweight. If a backup already exceeds the reference, I discuss a practical shared target or stop before making changes. Your reference is only altered with your approval.

  4. Adjust, verify and return.

Add removable weight in measured locations, recheck all three specifications and record the final results. Choose return in the matched baseline condition or a separately booked rebuild. For a playing match, use the same strings, gauge, tension, grips and accessories, then verify again with everything fitted. Matching specifications does not guarantee identical flex or feel.

This stripping process applies to tennis rackets. Pickleball paddles are measured in an agreed, consistent configuration without removing structural parts or altering the face.

Useful changes. Clear limits.

Matching selected measurements can make a backup more familiar. It cannot guarantee identical feel or better results: string beds, stiffness, construction and wear still matter. If you like your current setup and rarely switch, you may not need it.

Can any two rackets be matched?

Not always to a practical target. Adding weight cannot freely make a heavier racket lighter. I check the starting specifications and discuss the achievable result before you approve the work.

What is included in a matching quote?

The matching package includes measurements of both items, standard removable weighting of one item to an achievable reference, and recorded final measurements. No additional measurement fee is charged. If both items need substantial changes or special materials, I agree on a quote first. Tennis rackets and pickleball paddles use the same pricing approach.

Does this include twistweight or stiffness matching?

No. These are separate properties and are not included in the current matching service. Paddle-face modification and structural repairs are not offered.

Your choice of dry overgrip.

Grommet replacement.

Replace worn string-protecting grommets with a compatible set. Include your racket’s exact model and year or generation so I can check parts availability.

$15.00 installation labor per racket, plus the cost of the grommet set. A full replacement requires a restring; $20.00 stringing labor and strings are separate. I confirm the parts cost before payment.

Know your specifications.

Request a weight, balance and swingweight check for your tennis racket. Get a baseline before deciding whether an adjustment makes sense.

$20.00 per item for standalone measurements. These measurements are included when you book customization or matching.
